Oblivion Movie

Director Joseph Kosinski is a busy man, he's got many projects ahead of him. One of them, the movie Oblivion, is actually a movie he's been considering since a few years. The movie is in development, but for now Joseph Kosinski has teamed up with Radical Publishing to create a short illustrated novel based on Oblivion. The novel will be presented at the Comic Con, I guess we will also get more details about the film.

Here's a first look at Oblivion, the graphic novel:

Oblivion moviePlot:
"In a post-apocalyptic Earth, civilization lives above the clouds and scavengers illegally collect ancient artifacts from the polluted and destroyed surface below. But when one young scavenger discovers a crashed spacecraft planetside- and a beautiful woman within- he rejoices at the find. Little does he realize that his discovery will lead him to a journey filled with romance, adventure and unimaginable danger."

The plot above is the latest version available on Radical Publishing's site. But a lengthier summary (which has since been deleted) was on Amazon where the novel is on pre-order:

Plot:
"Earth, 2015. The Odyssey travels to Mars to assemble and occupy the Red Planet's first base station. En route, the sudden appearance of a vast White Cube in space interrupts the ship's voyage - and the crew of the Odyssey is never heard from again. 30 years later, Earth has become an almost unrecognizable, surreal wilderness with the remains of human cities poking through vast black sand dunes and bizarre geological formations. The White Cube, from a long-dead extraterrestrial race, was to find potentially inhabitable worlds and reshape them into suitable environments for the aliens, who now will never come. It now sits high in the planet's orbit, dominating the sky, attempting to undo the damage it has caused as well as repopulate the Earth with clones of the comatose Odyssey crew. The only clones on the surface remain those stationed in the looming Watchtowers, scattered around the planet. One such Watchtower crewmember, a clone named Jak, witnesses a burning object fall to Earth. It's an escape pod carrying Julia Kanan, the one lone survivor of the Odyssey before its capture by the Cube, and a love from Jak's pre-clone past. But as the authorities close in to retake Julia, Jak's genetic memory of his love for her drives him to decisions he never would have thought possible-and which could lead to disaster for both of them."

This earlier cover of Oblivion seems to confirm the plot above, we can indeed spot that cube in the sky:

A few words from Artist Andree Wallin who painted the illustrations of Oblivion:

Andree Wallin

"I'm reading the latest draft [of Oblivion] right now and it is amazing! Being a fan of postapocalyptic stories this is just right up my alley. It's like a cross between all my favourite movies and I can't wait for this to become a motion picture."
Artist Andree Wallin

The graphic novel will be released on November 16, 2010. So, hopefully, the movie Oblivion will enter into production soon.
